2026 Topps Inception Football Review: First Look at the NFL Return
Inception is back with the full NFL license, releasing November 6. One pack, seven cards, one autograph for 380 EUR at the Topps drop, and it was gone in seconds. This is my first look from the official checklist. Odds are not out yet, so the full review with grades follows at release, right here on this page.
First Look Verdict
The cards are a 1A. This is a dream set: the art style, the booklets, the relics. My one knock is the autos: from what I have seen, part of the autograph content comes as sticker autos, even though Topps markets Inception as hard-signed. At a release price under 400 EUR that is a compromise I can live with.
The product is not the problem. Getting it is. At the Topps drop it sold out in seconds, so there was never a real chance to buy. On the secondary market I expect boxes at 500 to 600 EUR, and at that price seven cards and one auto become a serious gamble. Inception has always been hit or miss. That is exactly why it should be widely available.

What Is on the Checklist
The base set runs 150 veterans plus a 50-card rookie section. On top come two rookie inserts: Launch (25 cards) and Rookie Short Prints (25 cards), both covering the same top rookies from Carson Beck to Sonny Styles.

The booklets are the cards I want most: eight dual rookie relic autos from the same team, Mendoza with Mike Washington Jr., Beck with Love, Simpson with Klare, Tate with Singleton.

Fernando Mendoza and the Team Spots
Mendoza is on eleven different cards, from the base rookie and Launch through Silver Signings, Genesis and the booklet. If you break Inception, the Raiders slot is Mendoza, plus Jeanty and Bowers on the veteran autos.

The Colts, Packers, Lions and Texans have one or two auto spots each. In a one-auto product, those are the slots that come away empty.
What We Do Not Know Yet
- Odds, and with that how rare the Rookie Short Prints, Silver Signings and booklets really are
- Print runs for the parallels beyond Gold Electricity /50 and Hot Pink /35
- Which auto sets are on-card and which are sticker
Who Should Buy
- At release price: if you get a box at 380 EUR, it is one of the best-looking products of the year.
- At 500 to 600 EUR secondary: buy singles ore participate in a break. One auto out of seven cards is too thin a margin.
- Mendoza collectors: eleven cards to chase, and the booklet with Mike Washington Jr. is the one to target.
- Breakers: Eagles, Jets, Titans and the Raiders carry the auto spots. Price the empty slots honestly.
Buy the card because you want it, not because everyone else does.
